"We, the people of South Africa, Recognise the injustices of our past; Honour those who suffered for justice and freedom in our land; Respect those who have worked to build and develop our country; and Believe that South Africa belongs to all who live in it, united in our diversity.” Preamble to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

RACE: Malema declares an economic war against whites

The ANC Youth League president, Julius Malema, doesn’t seem to know when to quit. He’s currently appearing before an ANC disciplinary committee on charges of bringing the party into disrepute, and today he made public comments that can only been seen as attempts to divide South Africa upon racial lines.

Malema declared an "economic war" against the "white minority" in the Scwetla informal settlement, while addressing a crowd of around 1000 supporters. "This is war, and we should fight moving forward. There will be casualties, but I know that we are going to win," he said. “They have stolen our land. They are criminals and must be treated like that. We want our land back and we want it for free.”

In a further presentation of ANCYL ill-manner, a Youth League official asked the crowd to give up some of their seats to a group of elderly women, and the crowd shouted back that the meeting was for the youth.

We cannot continue ad infinitum to ascribe everything that goes wrong in South Africa today to the past. It has been 17 years since 1994, when are we finally going to move on to talk about the real issues effecting South Africa rather than constantly pulling the race card?

Government must engage with Business Leadership SA and AgriSA as to how a more inclusive and participative economy can be created and how one can transfer an appropriate proportion of land from white to black farmers without diminishing agricultural productivity. All of this will take time. It cannot happen overnight in one quantum leap.

Read my previous post previous post for more about why Julius’s plans won’t work.
